Japanese Interior Decorating – Modernize Your Home

Date Added: June 01, 2008 08:38:56 AM

The Japanese have had a strong focus on interior design for generations, so you should put all their hard work towards making your home a better place to be. Tired of the way your home interior looks?  Do you want to try something different, something that will modernize your look?  Well, look no further than Japanese interior decorating to update and modernize your home.

Japanese Interior Decorating Ideas to Update Your Home

To the Japanese these two colors represent many different things, but the heart of their essence is purity.  The essence of Japanese interior decorating is balance.  Black and white are two colors that are used extensively in Japanese interior decorating.  Also black is used to enhance and bring out positives in other colors and is not seen as a muting or dulling color, but rather something that can accentuate and accent the colors of room.

If you do choose to use bold colors in your decorating, use the same color only once and try to avoid repeating it.  If the color is there to make a statement it only needs to do so once and repeating it takes away from its effect.  Western thinking is general is that if something looks good in one place it is certain to look good in another as well.

It is finding harmony and tranquility in a multitude of options that gives Japanese design its distinct look.  The other thing to consider with Japanese décor is that it needs to be simple.  An old Japanese saying says that there can not be peace when there is clutter, so remember in all things to keep it as simple as possible.  Have one object that is the center of each room, build around that object and keep everything else simple and in balance.

This goes against the Japanese idea of balance and tranquility, in that one representation of a bold color, texture, or material is enough to represent it and overdoing it deludes its effect.   You may wonder how you will find enough colors and materials to decorate your home to keep it in balance without overuse, and the idea that multiple textures, colors, and materials can be harmonious and tranquil may seem backwards to a Westerner, but that is the exact simple philosophy that makes Japanese interior decorating unique.

Also, do not expect a room to come together overnight as many truly great home décor in a Japanese style take many years to develop, so be patient. Try different colors and different materials together and see what the results are.  Do not be afraid to mix and match as you may be surprised with the results.
